Problems displaying emoticons

Description

Hi!

I'm just a beta tester, I hope this bug report is ok with you!
The emoticons don't show at all when the emoticons text are connected to each other.
For instance: :$:$ or :O:$ doesn't translate to emoticons but to text only.

I'm using Version 1.0 (724)

Thanks

Believe it or not, this is actually considered to be a "feature". :)

The problem we had before was that smileys would be all over the place when you had messages with lots of punctuation characters intermixed with regular text, as is the case with pasted source code. In "form:x:data", for instance, the ":x" would be replaced by a smiley. The fact that this is the same behavior displayed by the SAPO Messenger for Windows client was also a motivation. OTOH, iChat doesn't require smileys to be space separated in order to display them as images, and it certainly does not add any extra spaces when sending messages containing smileys.

We're planning to implement better and more intelligent paste support (see #127). Perhaps by having that new feature preventing pasted source code from getting defaced, maybe then we can reconsider this requirement of having to separate emoticons with spaces.

delfim, melo?

Well, I think that most users aren't sending form:x:data to each other on IMs :P
Disregarding that, I really like the Adium approach, one can click on an emoticon to bring it back to text and vice-versa, it's really helpful :)

Hi,

yes the new paste stuff should let us revisit this.

But this latest ideia is also interesting: a small switch on the Chat window to switch between smiles and text.

João, do you have a quick way of changing CSS or calling a JS method inside the chat window? If yes, I can take care of the rest...
